NOTE: The new batch of this stuff that we have is brighter (i.e., more neon) and less variegated than the last batch. The main photos still show the last batch, but HERE is a photo of the new stuff.
This is a 15-foot (4.5-meter) length of Flora and Fauna Farm Vibrant Green (UV) yarn. It is a 100% wool yarn from New York, and we worked with Flora and Fauna Farm to develop these UV yarns.
This yarn is a vibrant green in color (hence the name). The color itself is striking, but even more impressive is that it is UV-reactive. Under UV light, it glows (see the photo of the fly glowing under a black light). UV rays make up a portion of sunlight, and while we humans can't see that light, trout and other fish species can. This means that they'll be able to see a fly tied with this yarn from a greater distance, and it'll stand out more under water. Really cool stuff! Be sure to also check out this yarn in Hot Pink.
The Flora and Fauna Farm yarn is very soft, softer even than the Jamieson's Shetland Spindrift yarn that we sell. It is a 2-ply yarn that is similar in tying characteristics to the Spindrift yarn but is just a tad skinnier.
