I've ordered literally dozens of different fly boxes to try to find one I loved, and the best one turned out to not be a fly box at all. What we have here was originally made to be a pill box, apparently for those people who only need to take important medications 6 days a week. While it is perhaps a pill box of dubious utility, it is a fantastic little fly box.
It's small enough to fit inside just about any pocket.
It is extremely light (0.6 oz or 16 g).
It won't float if submerged for extended periods of time, but it'll definitely stay afloat long enough for you to realize you dropped it into the water and for you to desperately try to get it back. I know this from personal experience. Multiple personal experiences.
It'll hold lots of flies. How many exactly it will hold depends on how big your flies are and how much you want to cram them in. I can comfortably fit about 15 of my typical flies (size 12 tenkara flies in both soft and stiff hackle varieties) in each compartment. Multiply that by 6 compartments, and that gives you a carrying capacity of 90 flies. If I wanted to cram the flies in there a bit more, I could fit 20 in each compartment. That said, I usually don't find the need to have more than half a dozen in each compartment, and even that is way more than enough to get me through any reasonable fishing trip. I went on a weeklong backpacking and fishing trip in Wyoming's Wind River Range last summer. This little fly box was all I took, and I had plenty of flies left over at the end of the week.
Note that this box is for relatively small flies. It won't work for your giant foam hoppers, your big ol' poppers, or your mice imitations. It's not that great for woolly buggers or most other streamers, and even larger sakasa kebari will have trouble fitting in it. But for your standard wet flies, dry flies, and nymphs, it's perfect.
This fly box is compartmentalized, and each of the 6 compartments has its own little lid. This means that you won't dump out your entire fly collection if you fumble the box with numb fingers while you have one of the lids open. The entire lid top plate piece can also be removed if you unlatch all 6 compartment lids. I've never needed to do this, but it's an option.
Each of the 6 compartments has a rounded edge on the bottom, so it's easier to pick out those tiny nymphs.
Overall, it's just a great little fly box. You'll love it.
